Drayton Towers, Savannah, Georgia, 1951 Once modern architecture's enemies, now its defenders by Russ Bynum Associated Press, Online Athens, September 28, 2002. Article on the preservation controversy surrounding the historic designation of the 1951 Drayton Towers in Savannah, Georgia. ''People come to Savannah and say, 'Ain't it quaint.' And you've got this stridently modern building sitting at its center. 'It's like: I'm modern and I'm proud of it. ... It's a pure artistic statement, whether you like that statement or not.'' Robin Williams, head of the architectural history department at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Price Tower, Bartlesville, OK, 1956, Frank Lloyd Wright "The idea of a tall, vertical building was inherently at odds with Wright's nature-based philosophy and preference for low-to-the-ground shell forms, until he decided to use a cantilevered tree form as the design's premise. Made of concrete and glass, the 19-story Price Tower originally served multiple uses, as office and retail space and a residential complex. It now houses a not-for-profit museum and Arts Center, with a major reinstallation of the center's Frank Lloyd Wright gallery. The tower has also recently been added to the roster of famous designer hotels, its 21 rooms outfitted completely by New York architect Wendy Evans Joseph and offering a rare chance to stay in a Frank Lloyd Wright building. Also in the tower on the 15th and 16th floors is the restaurant, Copper, cantilevered over the prairie to offer views and sensations evocative of being up in a tree."
