Automobile Showrooms

Endangered!
Lustine-Nicholson Chevrolet Automobile Dealership, Hyattsville, Maryland The Lustine showroom on Route 1 in Hyattsville, Maryland, is a relatively unaltered mid-century landmark. Completed in 1950 to accommodate the expanding Lustine dealership, the showroom was designed to attract the eye of passing motorists and to stand out from the many other automobile-related enterprises along Route 1. With its curving floor to ceiling glass display windows, the showroom represents the Streamline Moderne aesthetic. Currently, the vacant showroom is under threat as development plans for the lot and surrounding areas are in the preliminary stages by a private developer. The Hyattsville Preservation Association is advocating adaptive reuse of the building. Information courtesy of the Hyattsville Preservation Association, http://www.preservehyattsville.org/.
