About
the Architect:
Max
Ratner (1917-2002). Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Ratner practiced architecture
for 56 years, operating out of Peninsula, Ohio. He was a self-taught architect
who obtained certification after World War II and studied at Taliesin
West and Taliesin with Frank Lloyd Wright. He designed many different
types of structures, first specializing in interracial housing projects,
later moving into modular housing design, nursing homes, urban hotels,
office buildings, and high-rise apartments, including Brooks Towers in
Denver, Colorado. He was active in the creation of Cuyahoga Valley National
Park; the administration of that park is now contemplating demolition
of the Garrett House. Original owners: Randy and Betty Garrett.
