Garrett House, 2225 Stine Rd., Penninsula, Summit County, Ohio ca. 1951, by Max Ratner Located within the boundaries of Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area

About the Architect:
Max Ratner (1917-2002). Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Ratner practiced architecture for 56 years, operating out of Peninsula, Ohio. He was a self-taught architect who obtained certification after World War II and studied at Taliesin West and Taliesin with Frank Lloyd Wright. He designed many different types of structures, first specializing in interracial housing projects, later moving into modular housing design, nursing homes, urban hotels, office buildings, and high-rise apartments, including Brooks Towers in Denver, Colorado. He was active in the creation of Cuyahoga Valley National Park; the administration of that park is now contemplating demolition of the Garrett House. Original owners: Randy and Betty Garrett.
