Levittown, New York

In 1953, builder William Levit's innovative and controversial "assembly-line" method of home construction turned the dream of home ownership into a reality for thousands of people and changed the American landscape forever.

Levittown: A Home of Our Own Michener Art Museum, Doylestown, Pa. This visual celebration of the 50th anniversary of the famous suburb of Levittown includes an exhibition of contemporary Levittown photographs by noted photojournalist Joan Klatchko and features an original Levittown kitchen and other related objects from the State Museum of Pennsylvania. Building for the Boomers: Levittown and Beyond The State Museum of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA. Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and Preservation Pennsylvania hosted a symposium designed to explore recent scholarship on the subject of postwar suburbanization and its culture. The symposium was held in conjunction with a current exhibit at the State Museum of Pennsylvania on the development of Levittown, recognized as one of the first major postwar suburban developments in the nation.
