Submit Your Information to RPPN

submit@recentpast.org

RPPN is dedicated to raising awareness of the value of buildings, landscapes and structures of the recent past. All submitted materials remain your property. We want to raise awareness and help you get attention for all your hard work!

Ideally all submittals should be accompanied by your name, phone number, and other contact information, including email and a homepage url if you have one. You can remain anonymous if you prefer.

Text and images to be submitted should follow the general guidelines below. If you have specific questions or problems, let us know and we will try to work them out.

Text | Images | Preservation Groups

Text

All text forms are acceptable; html format is preferred. Email is great if you are sending a short paragraph plus image.

We are particularly interested in articles, theses, and dissertations dealing with middle-twentieth century topics. Any works or critical essays regarding preservation or brief biographies of buildings and their architects are also welcome.

For long documents (such as theses and dissertations), an abstract, table of contents, pertinent portions of the work, and a bibliography are preferred over the entire text. Don't forget to send in your figures and illustrations as well (see below for guidelines).

Text can be inserted in an email or sent as an attachment. Mac or PC; Word or WordPerfect are all acceptable. Plain text (.txt) or rich-text documents can also be accommodated.

Images

We love images! If you have interesting photographs of any mid-century structures please contact us. Remember, these don't have to be the biggest, the best, or the brightest stars of the recent past--even small or obscure structures deserve their due attention!

We can accept images in any digital format, PC or Mac. JPGs work the best and can be attached to an email sent to submit@recentpast.org. The images should be no bigger than 500 x 500 pixels nor less than 250 x 250, minimum 72 dpi but not larger than 100 dpi, saved at minimum "6" or "High" quality. The size of the image gives us flexibility in the way we present your work. Both black and white and color are acceptable.

If you do not have access to a digital scanner, we can make arrangements to scan and return your photographs or slides. Alternatively, you can have a commercial firm scan your images to a zip, floppy disk, or cd that you can then send on to us (all materials will be returned to you).

Please include descriptions for the photographs if you have them (ex: View of facade facing downtown; Detail view of concrete pier, etc.) or include a brief history of the building and don't forget the credit line and date.

Be sure to save the images with relatively brief but recognizable file names with no spaces or characters (#$%&*) in the name, though you can use underscore _ or periods . to separate words in the name (example: grnd_teton.jpg).

Preservation Groups

There are so many ways the web can help bring attention to your preservation group! Check our page for ideas on starting your own grass-roots efforts. If you send us a description of your group and/or a photograph of the building you are trying to save we'll post those to our Endangered Properties page as well. Or if you just want to bring attention to a current demolition plan, let us know!
