National Windshield Survey - Listing of Recent Past Resources by Type. Members are welcome to contribute photos, reports, links and other relevant information to our National Windshield Survey. Named after a quick survey technique -- photographing buildings from the car -- and containing images, text, and preservation cases separated by building type, this ever-expanding section of our site will provide a context for your own preservation work, whether you are studying Domes, Lustron Houses, Bowling Alleys, or structures from the Cold War Era.

Excellent site with full documentation of an "informational and educational case study" detailing the creation of the Rivergate, the efforts to preserve it, and the destruction of this significant mid twentieth-century public building in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Florida Master Site File. The Florida Master Site File is a paper file archive and computer data base of all known historical structures and archaeological sites in Florida. There are currently more than 106,000 historical structures and archaeological sites listed on the site file. Paper forms for those interested in nominating structures, buildings, and sites are available on-line in PDF and .doc format.

"From the Ground Up: A Preservation Plan for Georgia, 2001-2006" is now available on the Historic Preservation Division's web site at www.gashpo.org under "2001-2006 State Plan." The publication was created by soliciting input from HPD's constituents as well as staff analysis of preservation programs, issues and projects; confirmation of long-range goals; and the identification of objectives and annual action plan items.

Texas (as in several other states) has recently completed and extensive study on the economic impacts of historic preservation. The Texas study, conducted for eight CLG cities (including Laredo) and the SHPO by the Center for Urban Policy Research of Rutgers University, has seven major findings about the positive economic impacts of preservation. Texas: Nifty Fifty: Finding the Best Buildings of the Past 50 Years The Texas Historical Commission is conducting a public architectural survey to encourage discussion and appreciation of architecture that best represents the last 50 years. Please contribute! Or use their survey form (PDF format) as the basis for your own local survey. Remember, identification is the key to preservation.

International Preservation Standards, Guidelines & Sources

ICOMOS Documentation Centre. International Council On Monuments and Sites. On-line posting of all issues of Monumentum, an early ICOMOS publication documenting the organization's "pioneer era" in the field of international preservation. While some of the articles are now more useful for the historic perspective that they provide, others show that we are still facing the same issue we faced decades ago. All in all, it is a very valuable tool for the preservation community. Features an index by author's name.

Burra Charter - Australia ICOMOS. A comprehensive and useful preservation manual. Australia ICOMOS, the peak body of professionals working in heritage conservation, adopted revisions to the Burra Charter at its AGM in November 1999.The revisions take account of advances in conservation practice that have occurred over the decade since the Charter was last updated. Prominent among the changes are the recognition of less tangible aspects of cultural significance including those embodied in the use of heritage places, associations with a place and the meanings that places have for people.
