Stories:

When a Neutra Landmark Becomes a Tear-Down: Rancho Mirage home built in 1963 is sold for $2.45 million. Preservation is hinted at, then wrecking ball quickly falls. By Kathy Bryant, Special to the L.A. Times, April 11, 2002.

Fixer Uppers: How Much Change Is Too Much? By Michael J. Lewis, New York Times, April 7, 2002. "To lovers of architecture, the recent demolition of the Maslon house, near Palm Springs, Calif., was akin to Lazlo Toth's notorious attack on Michelangelo's "Pieta." The 1962 house was one of the celebrated modernist Richard Neutra's key late works, in a state of immaculate preservation. Yet its new owners easily secured a demolition permit."

Eva Destruction — A Neutra Landmark is Torn Down from 2020 Hindsight.

At 90, Still Building on His Art: Julius Shulman looms large as the architectural photographer who chronicled the California lifestyle. By Irene Lacher, Special to The L.A. Times, November 16, 2000. "Shulman, who shot most of Neutra's work, learned a lot from the architect about using light and shadow in photography. Neutra never wanted Shulman to shoot his buildings unless he was there.... The two strong-willed artists butted aesthetics when Shulman photographed Neutra's Maslon residence in Cathedral City, near Palm Springs, in 1962."
