The
Paul Rudolph Foundation has started a petition to save the Chorley Elementary School in Middletown, New York, designed by noted architect Paul Rudolph. The school opened in 1969 with the Superintedent of Schools stating ""let us hope that forty years hence people will be commenting favorably on the foresight of this community during the '60's." Unfortunately, the school did not make it 40 years before official began planning for its demolition. In December 2008, voters passed a referendum to build a new elementary school, and a clause was added to demolish the existing school and replace it with a parking lot. Now, the Paul Rudolph Foundation and other preservationists are engaged in efforts to keep the school district from demolishing this one of a kind school. The school has also been listed as one of the
Preservation League of New York State's Seven to Save in 2010.
