Views of the Captain's Galley, the Gulf Coast's premier Nautical Modern restuarant, just a minute north of the Treasure Island Blind Pass causeway in neighboring Madeiera Beach. Landmark restuarant next door, the Santa Madiera (shaped like a giant ship), was recently demolished in May 2003 for condos, and the Captain's Galley is in immediate danger of the same fate. After the Buccaneer in Longboat Key was shut down last year and then the Santa Madiera, it leaves western Florida with just the Captain's Galley to represent the finest in Nautical Modern.
Detail of wall neons at the Satellite Motel, Treasure Island's contribution to the "Sputnik" influence in modern design. 11205 Gulf Blvd, Treasure Island, FL 33706
The perfect combination? Five minutes from Treasure Island is an open-air tiki bar (Porpoise Pub) and antiquarian bookstore (Seminole Books, formerly Brasser's Books), built around a tiki park-like setting! 8701 Seminole Blvd Seminole, FL 33772
